Skytex Licenses ExoPC UI for Skytab S Series Windows 7 tablet

Now ExoPC found what appears to be its first taker in Skytex, which has adopted the custom touch layer for its new Skytab S Series Windows 7 tablet. Like the ExoPC itself, this one packs a 9.7-inch capacitive display, although the internals get an upgrade to a dual-core Atom N550 processor, which is paired with 2GB of DDR3 RAM and an as-yet-unspecified amount of storage.

ExoPC also describes this particular version of the UI as a "special edition," although it's not showing off too many of the changes just yet.

The Skytab S-series tablet with Windows 7 Home Premium and EXO UI is available for pre-order now. Shipments will begin in early October.

Leaked Yahoo memo indicates possible sale

As quoted from Neowin, when Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz sacked earlier this month, co-founder Jerry Yang, had earlier told employees that the company will not be sold. Maybe it will change, because the Business Insider reported that a leaked email this week from Yahoo's Yang to all employees indicating that the company is considering going interest from buyers.

"Our advisers are working with us to develop ideas that we will pursue proactively. At the same time, they are fielding inquiries from multiple parties that have already expressed interest in a number of potential options." Yang wrote in his email to Yahoo employees.

Rumors also mention earlier this month that Microsoft may be (re) interested in buying Yahoo, something thatonce they try a few years ago and failed. Yang also responded to some of the rumors that Yahoo buy back busy lately via email.

"There will be plenty of rumors and speculation as different parties try to advance their agendas in the media – but it is important that we not be distracted by the rumors and speculation." added Yang.

It seems that Yahoo's Yang board wanted to ensure the best for the company. "Whilewe will move with a sense of urgency, this process will take time. Months, not weeks. We know that’s a lot of potential distraction, but we believe it will be worth the wait." he concluded.

ZTE Skate

ZTE Skate is a slim 11.35 mm thick, has a large 4.3 inch TFT (thin film transistor) capacitive display with a resolution of 480 x 800 and weighs just 148g. Its design style is inspired by the skateboard and it runs on Android 2.3. The Skate provides a user-friendly interface with practical and powerful multimedia capabilities.

With a different ZTE device set to arrive on Cricket soon, the electronics giant also intends to bring this 4.3-inch phone to the US in the near future, though there's nothing concrete on dates and prices just yet.

According to ZTE's executive VP He Shiyou, the company is set to launch "a total of 30 smartphone models" by the end of the year.

The global rollout of the Skate will continue this year in European countries including the U.K. and France, in Asian countries including Malaysia, Indonesia and China, and in the United States

The C400 SED (Self-Encrypting Drive) is based on the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) Opal specifications and provides a hardware-based answer for the increasing wave of data breaches that continue to impact computer users and enterprises worldwide.

The C400 SED's encryption capabilities are delivered through a hardware-based, AES-256-bit encryption engine and advanced security firmware. Like all hardware-encryption, the drive works in conjunction with an encryption management system. Micron's C400 SED solution was built in partnership with leading encryption management provider Wave Systems (Nasdaq:WAVX). Wave's EMBASSY® management software provides policy-based access controls, comprehensive reporting, directory services integration and end-user access recovery that allows IT to cost-effectively implement and administer endpoint encryption. The C400's encryption key is protected within drive hardware—separate from the host. This is one reason why hardware-based encryption is superior to software encryption (an alternative solution that stores the encryption key in the computer's memory, where it's vulnerable to attack). Micron's SED offers stronger security because the encryption key never leaves the drive. User authentication is performed by the drive prior to starting the operating system, ensuring independence from the operating system. Another disadvantage of software-based encryption is its dependence on the computer's processor, which can degrade performance. In contrast, Micron's C400 SED performs all encryption inside the SSD's controller, ensuring no system performance degradation.
